Mt. Sobo is one of the 100 Famous Japanese Mountains. The 1,756 m high mountain lies on the border between Oita and Miyazaki Prefecture. It is geo site of Oita Bungo-Ono Geo Park. Mt. Sobo has valuable natural forests where the distribution of vegetation is distinguished clearly depending on the altitude. It has also become a habitat of special natural monument Japanese serow.
In addition, Kawakami Valley is in the headwaters of the original OkuTakeshi river where it enters the Mount Sobo system about 1 km from the ruins Obirakozan (forest Japan hundred election of forest). Mount Sobo system granitoids (Neogene acidic intrusive rocks) white bed and rock face is beautiful. A lot of climbers visit from spring to autumn. In the valley basin, spring Mitsubatsutsuji blooms, the early summer green is bright, the flowing water is also refreshing. Sheer volcanic rocky peaks, such as Mount Sobo, Tenguiwa-Eboshiiwa are visible from the valley creating a superb view. Deep in the valley, Kirengeshouma, Miyama Tutsi birdlime, many rare plants have been identified, such as Keibiran. It is a treasure trove of rare plants. Kawakami Valley, further upstream towards Motoya Kawakami is Urushiwa valley which branches in to steep V-shaped valleys, such as Saman valley, but refuse to NyuKei of normal climbers, became a great valley for sawanobori of senioring.

The Sobo Katamuki Okue Unesco Eco Park is aimed at harmonizing the preservation of ecosystems and sustainable utilization, where the Sobo Katamuki Okue Mountains, thatextend between Oita and Miyazaki prefectures, contains 6 cities in which the Ono river and Gokase river make up the Ono river system.    The Sobo Katamuki Okue mountain range has steep mountainous topography with untouched forests, beautiful valleys, and an exquisite variety of diverse species of life such as the Japanese wild goat and Japanese giant salamander.
